Cahir GAA Notes

Thank you Mr. Chairman

Our AGM was held last Saturday evening in the club rooms, with the biggest news to come from the meeting was the stepping down of our Chairman John O Connor (pictured), after a very successful six years at the helm of our club since his election in 2011, John overseen the club win two South and County U21 Football titles, reach the County Senior Football Championship final in 2014 and the South Senior Championship in 2016, the Senior Football League Title in 2014, and the County Junior ‘B' Hurling Championship Final in 2012, the Club contested many other South Finals in both hurling and football while John was in the chair, under John's stewardship the club finances improved Vastly with the introduction of Draw The Joker and many other fund raisers, much development took place while John was in charge with the fencing of our pitch in Duneske and planned much more development for the coming years, during his term John dealt capably with all matters that came before him showing great diplomacy in solving many different situations quietly and efficiently, we cannot forget his wife Margaret, daughter Aisling and his two sons Sean and Alan, for all the support they gave John and our club over the last six years, it could not have been easy as this job can be seven nights a week, we thank you all very much, from all in the club John we thank you for the endless work over the last six years ,and no doubt you will continue to have an important role in the club in the coming years, again we thank you John.

Continuing with our AGM a new Chairman was elected and that was local man Pat O Brien (pictured). Pat has been with the club most of his life, played all age groups and coached all ages as well, ex Juvenile Chairman, he is no stranger to us in the club. We hope it all goes well for the years ahead, congratulations Pat.

Still on the AGM most other officers positions stay as they are for this year at least, one notable change was Delegate to the South Board, Willie O Gorman who after ten years in this position has called it a day, the club would like to thank Willie for his long service in this position, Willie is staying on as a member of the club and will have a lot to contribute in the coming years.

Last word on our AGM we would like to thank all officers (especially our Secretary Eddie Lonergan for the fabulous report, Michael Fahy for the great job with the finances) and all committee members for all the hard work put in by everybody in 2016 and let's hope 2017 can be as good thank you all again.

Wedding bells

Congratulation to John O Brien (son of John and Peggy) who recently married Cork native Claire O'Donnell, the club would like to wish both John and Claire a long and happy life together.

Draw the Joker

Our fun game and main fund raiser is still going strong, we hold the draw every Sunday evening in various pubs around the town, so if you want to know what it is all about, please join us some Sunday evening (you'd never know your luck) it is well advertised and can be a great night out, this week Cahir House Hotel was the venue, and winners are as follows: Sarah Malone, Tina O'Dwyer, Mari Robertson, Shane McQueeney and Liam Guilfoyle.

Cahir and District Sports Awards

The Cahir and District Sports Achievement Award for the Month of December 2016 will be announced in The Abbey Tavern next Sunday night after the Joker Draw.
