Lonergan calls for new Directional Signage to be erected

Independent Local County Councillor for Clonmel/Cahir Borough District, Cllr Martin Lonergan has tabled a Motion for the next Borough Council meeting calling for directional signage to be replaced at junctions where signage was stolen.

His call comes after directional signage at junctions around the district appears to have been stolen in recent weeks and months. Commenting on the motion Cllr. Lonergan said;

"As we are entering the tourist season, it is extremely important that signage is replaced as the lack thereof is causing a lot of confusion for persons visiting the area trying to find places of interest such as our many looped mountain walks and indeed our heritage sites.

I have, in recent weeks been advised that signage has been taken at numerous junctions and villages across the district. We are trying to sell the area in terms of tourism potential and if we do not replace directional signage to places of interest, it is a retrograde step.

I am advised that local General Service Supervisors have been asked to make an inventory of areas where signage is missing and that these will be replaced where funding is available. It is simply not possible for this process to be dragged out over a long period of time,” concluded Cllr. Lonergan.
