Our Lady of Mercy pupils receive their “Let’s Get Active” awards

Sixth class pupils were delighted that past pupil and All Ireland winner Aisling McCarthy took time out of her busy schedule to come to the school to present the girls with their “Let's Get Active” awards from the Irish Heart Foundation. They were also joined by Paddy Caplice who is coach and development officer with the Cahir GAA club. Paddy introduced Aisling to the class and spoke of her massive achievements with her club, college and county to date. Aisling then spoke to the girls about the importance of sport in everyday life both for physical and mental health. She described sport as a medicine and also reiterated the importance of healthy eating and having a good breakfast each morning. The girls received their certificates in recognition of their efforts to do at least 60 minutes activity daily both inside and outside of school during the month of September. They are also involved in teaching cooperative games to the junior infant classes at lunchtime. They now know the huge benefits that can be experienced through being active everyday. Well done girls.
