Cahir GAA Club Notes

Senior football league

We played Moyle Rovers in the senior football league last Wednesday evening, Rovers got the first three points and it would take Cahir nine minutes to get their first point but add three more points in a row to lead 0-04 to 0-03 with twelve gone, scores were hard to come by, a couple of more points would be exchanged before the break and at the break it was all square five points each, the second was a low scoring affair with only seven scores in all, both teams pointed at the start of the second half but that would be it until the eighteenth minute, when Rovers raised the white flag, two points from Keelan Looby (pictured below) and Dylan Fitzgerald put Cahir in the driving seat with time almost up, one last attack from Rovers would see them grab a goal at the death to rob Cahir of the victory, final score Cahir 0-09 Moyle Rovers 1-07, the team played well throughout the game but a disappointing result at the end, full team and scorers: Aaron Wall, James Walsh, Ger Hally, Keelan Looby (0-1), Sean O'Connor, Kieran O'Dwyer (0-1), Brian McKenna, Liam Casey, Conor Casey, Tommy McDonagh, Niall McKenna, Nicholas Reidy (0-1), Eanna Heffernan, Dean Lonergan (0-3), Sean Murphy (0-2). Subs Used: Ger Quinn, Dylan Fitzgerald (0-1), Eoin Donaghy

Junior A hurling

A long puck into the square from the throw in saw Cahir's Michael Cussen catch, turn and dispatch the sliothar to the back of the net for the opening score of our match against Ballylooby/Castlegrace, last Saturday evening in Ballyporeen, our neighbours settled and the next three scores came from them to draw level with sixteen gone, nineteen minutes would pass before Cahir got their next score which was a free converted by Eoin Donaghy, (pictured below) a Ballylooby goal in the next minute and two points in as many minutes saw them open a four point lead, Cahir would get the last two points of the half and at the break were behind by two 1-03 to 1-05, the second half started with both teams trading a point each in the first couple of minutes, from then on it was all Ballylooby with five unanswered points until the thirteenth minute when Cahir pulled a point back, both teams would cancel each other's last two points out with time coming to an end, but before time was up a free for Cahir saw Kieran O'Dwyer's effort raise a green flag to nudge us a little closer to getting something out of the game, but the clock was not in our favour, final score Cahir 2-07 Ballylooby/Castlegrace 1-12,

full team and scorers: Keelan Hickey, Eanna Heffernan, Daniel Moloney, Keelan Looby, Ger Hally, Kieran O'Dwyer (1-1), Mikey O'Connor, Ryan O'Donnell, Colin McEniry, Alan O'Connor, Sean O'Connor, Lian Meehan (0-1), Conor Cashman, Michael Cussen (1-2), Eoin Donaghy (0-3).
