Cahir GAA Club Notes

South Senior Football

Last Wednesday evening Ned Hall Park was the venue for our meeting with Kilsheelan/Kilcash in the South, a low scoring first half saw us miss a lot of chances with some very poor shooting, our opponents where not much better with just two points, one at the start of the half and one towards the end of the thirty, and at the break Cahir were ahead by one 0-03 to 0-02, the second thirty was a little bit better and a better scoring average from both sides, still poor passing and wrong choices from Cahir seemed to be the order of the day, having said that our young men had the better of the action and on the eighteen minute mark had a glorious goal chance which sadly did not come off, with seven minutes left we lost a player to a black card, now chasing the game we could not find that little sparkle to grab the equalizer or even the win, final score Cahir 0-08 Kilsheelan 0-09, these two teams will meet again later in the year in the County championship, we hope that we can be in better shape for that one, full team and scorers: Aaron Wall, Sean O'Connor Ger Hally, Patrick Meehan (0-1), Tommy McDonagh (0-1), Kieran O'Dwyer, Ger Quinn, Eddie Kendrick, Ian Flannery, Brian McKenna, Dean Lonergan (0-1), MIkey O'Connor (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-1), Alan O'Connor, Eanna Heffernan. Subs Used: Shane Murphy (0-2), Jake Kiely (0-1), Robbie Costigan, James Walsh

County hurling league

O'Connor brothers (Sean and Alan) in action for Cahir

The county hurling league continued with Cahir having a home game against Cappawhite in lovely sunshine last Saturday evening, the Park looked in very good condition after the winter break and this was the first senior game to be played on the pitch this year, well done to everyone involved in making the field look so good, the game itself was just about a minute old when we were put on the back foot when Cappawhite raised the green flag for their first score, we settled and the next three minutes saw Cahir get back the deficit with three points from Stephen Reilly (pictured below), the next couple of scores came from the men in blue and white, but Cahir kept going and put another three points on the board and at the break it was 1-07 to 0-06, the second half was a good clean contest with both sides going for the win, Cahir playing well were getting some fine scores but were always chasing the game because every time we got close to Cappawhite they seemed to go a couple ahead all the time, finally with four minutes to go we drew level but that old story again our visitors would go a couple in front, Cahir got the last point before the final whistle but sadly not enough, final score Cahir 0-18 Cappawhite 1-16, a good performance from our lads and things seem to be coming together, well done to all the panel, full team and scorers: Keelan Hickey, Eanna Heffernan, Ger Hally, Keelan Looby, Ger Quinn, Kieran O'Dwyer, Darragh Howard, Conor Casey (0-1), Colin McEniry, (0-1), Alan O'Connor (0-2), Stephen Reilly (0-11), Conor O'Brien (0-1), Sean O'Connor (0-1), Daniel Moloney, Aaron Condon. Subs Used: Eoin Donaghy, Dean Lonergan (0-1)
