Council Project Improves Accessibility on Cahir Track

Tipperary County Council is delighted to confirm that work has been completed on the ORIS funded project totalling €34,000 to widen and resurface an existing track at Caherabbey Upper, Cahir. This provides an alternative route to users to safely complete a 4.5 km walking loop and avoid the busy Tipperary Road roundabout.  This project also provides improved accessibility to the pre-Christian Tobar Íosa Well.  The holy well consists of a natural spring and is regularly visited by local people and tourists alike.

Traditionally on Pattern Day which is Christmas Eve, people would visit where they would complete the “rounds” and three pebbles were taken from the upper well in remembrance of devotions made.

Tipperary County Council also conveyed a special thanks to Cahir Tidy Towns and the Tobar Íosa Well Committee who continue to maintain this tranquil amenity area in the town.
