St Declan's Way 2024 Booking Opens: Walking Adventure Expands to 6 Stages for the First Time

Embark on an extraordinary journey with the return of the St. Declan's Way Pilgrimage event in 2024. Organised by the experienced Knockmealdown Active volunteer group, this year's event promises an expanded adventure with six stages for the first time, each offering a unique experience along one of Ireland's most cherished ancient pilgrimage routes. 

A Local Gem: The St. Declan's Way Experience

Often referred to as "Ireland's Camino," St. Declan's Way travels through the heart of the Irish countryside. Starting in Cashel, Co. Tipperary, and winding through South Tipperary and West Waterford, the route culminates in the coastal town of Ardmore, Co. Waterford. This pilgrimage is a journey through centuries of history, set against a backdrop of awe-inspiring landmarks and landscapes including the Rock of Cashel, Mount Melleray Abbey and more.

This year's 123km event comprises six stages:

  • Stage 1: Saturday, March 23rd - Cashel to Cahir (21km)
  • Stage 2: Sunday, March 24th - Cahir to Goatenbridge (18km)
  • Stage 3: Saturday, April 6th - Goatenbridge to Mount Melleray Abbey (22km). This is part of Pilgrim Paths Week 2024
  • Stage 4: Sunday, April 7th - Mount Melleray Abbey to Lismore (20km). This is part of Pilgrim Paths Week 2024.
  • Stage 5: Saturday, April 20th - Lismore to Aglish (21km)
  • Stage 6: Sunday, April 21st - Aglish to Ardmore (21km)

Stage 3 & 4 will be run in conjunction with Pilgrim Paths Week 2024. This week-long festival covers a range of events encompassing many of Ireland's pilgrim routes, from Donegal to Kerry.

Individual stages can be booked for €45 each, A limited-time offer of €250 is available for those who wish to undertake all six stages. The prices include bus transfers to the walk start point, volunteer stewards. marshals to guide walkers, regular water stops and medical assistance on hand. Refreshments will be served in local community halls on the route at the end of each stage.
