Former Convent Building Not To House International Protection Applicants

The former Convent of Mercy building in Cahir is not currently being looked at for International Protection Accommodation, the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth has confirmed.
With concerns being raised to Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath, and upon seeking clarification from the Department on the rumours that the convent would be used to house asylum seekers, it is understood that the Department of Housing is however assessing the same building as part of the Emergency Refurbishment (Ukraine) Programme.
