Following on from the Dawn Walk some months ago the Cahir Youth Mental Health Awareness Evening was held in Cahir House Hotel last night. The event was hosted by Oakpark Foods along with Cahir Youth and Cahir Meet and Train.
The speakers on the night were exceptional with lots
of useful and practical advice. The
evening was aimed at encouraging people to speak openly and freely about mental
health and it achieved exactly that.
Minister of State for "Mental Health and Older
People" Mary Butler TD opened the event followed by Niamh O'Gorman,
Development and Training Officer, HSE Regional Suicide Resource Office, Garda
Detective Sergeant Graham Deegan, Senator Frances Black - Chair of Mental
Health in Seanad Éireann, John Leahy - HSE Drug Education Officer and Tipperary
All-Ireland Hurling star and Tom Morrissey of Oakpark Foods.
The youth were commended for their involvement on the night
for organising the Drawn Walk with help from Pat and Marie Egan, the proceeds
from it directly led to last night's talks taking place.
There were also stands on the night that the public could
engage with which included Aine from Healthy Tipperary, Derek from Tipperary
volunteer Centre, Emer From Jigsaw, Pauline in Comhairle and Niamh in Connect
for Limerick, their presence added even more expertise to an already
informative night.
