Aiséirí: Celebrating 40 Years with an Ambitious Strategic Plan

CAHIR, COUNTY TIPPERARY: A day of celebration, reflection, and vision took place in Cahir as Aiséirí marked its 40th year of addiction treatment. Not one to rest on its laurels, the organisation also unveiled an ambitious Strategic Plan for the 2024-2028 period.

Currently, Aiséirí proudly operates from four distinct recovery centres located in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Waterford. The new plan, named "One Step at a Time," reflects Aiséirí's dedication to providing comprehensive and evolving treatment services for addiction victims and their families.

Aiséirí's rich history dates back to 1983 when Sr. Eileen Fahy established the organisation in Cahir. From its inception, the principles of the Minnesota 12-step model of care, abstinence-based treatment, and core values such as hope and compassion have remained at its heart.

Over four decades, the organisation has broadened its services considerably. Today, it stands out as the only addiction treatment entity in Ireland providing a seven-stage lifetime of care. This spans from preventive measures to robust recovery support.

Aiséirí's flexible approach has allowed it to continuously adapt its services in response to emerging addiction challenges, both nationally and globally. For instance, 25 years ago, Aiséirí Aislinn in Kilkenny was initiated to address the rising addiction issues among young individuals. It remains the sole Irish treatment centre exclusively designed for individuals between 15 and 21 years, utilizing a 12-step care model.

In recent years, Aiséirí has also implemented a residential detox program, offering 24-hour specialized clinical care. The new strategic plan emphasizes the expansion of such services alongside others, including extended care and family services.

Tom O'Dwyer, Chairman of Aiséirí, expressed his pride in the organisation's history and optimism for its future: "This strategic plan symbolizes our commitment to further strengthening our treatment and rehabilitation services and achieving more success stories."

Mary Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer, further emphasized the people-centric approach in crafting the new strategic plan. She stated, "Our journey began with the people at the heart of Aiséirí. Today's celebration, marking our 40th year of excellence, is yet another step forward."

Aiséirí's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. The organisation has secured accreditation from CHKS, an internationally acknowledged healthcare quality standards body. Additionally, partnerships with entities like HSE, the Probation Service, and other representative bodies have been established.

For those seeking help, Aiséirí offers a ray of hope and a proven track record. Details on their services can be found at their official website or by contacting 052 7441166.
