Cahir's own Will Fleury made his mark in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Light Heavyweight tournament in Las Vegas last night. Fleury went head-to-head with experienced Polish fighter Krzysztof Jotko, who had fought in the UFC 17 times.
Despite Jotko being the favorite to win the fight, Fleury showed incredible adaptability and skill as he rose through the ranks. In a thrilling display of skill and athleticism, Fleury won the fight by split decision to open the season.
Fleury, a former quantity surveyor, is the son of Denise and Charlie Fleury, who were antique dealers in Cahir. He began his MMA journey at the age of 23 and has since competed in multiple international competitions. Fleury's dedication and hard work have earned him a loyal fan base, both in Ireland and abroad.
The PFL tournament offers a unique format, with fighters competing in a regular season before moving on to the playoffs and ultimately, the championship. The winner of the championship is awarded a million-dollar prize. Fleury has a tough road ahead of him, but with his tenacity and skill, he could make it to the top.
Irish MMA fans undoubtedly cheered on Fleury as he took on Jotko in this high-stakes competition. We congratulate Will on his impressive win and wish him all the best as he continues his journey in the PFL tournament.
