Tipperary Sinn Féin local representative encourages community to shop local this Christmas

Cahir Sinn Féin local area representative, Cathal Ó hÉanna, is encouraging shoppers in Cahir to support the local economy by spending locally over the Christmas season.

Cathal Ó hÉanna said that he is urging people to show their support for local shops and businesses at this time by spending locally, thereby helping Cahir's local economy at a crucial time for retailers.

“Spending locally in our shops and businesses around Cahir means supporting local jobs and maintaining employment in the local economy. Every euro counts when it comes to assisting the economy in our county.”

“Keeping our towns and villages viable and vibrant is a central objective of Sinn Féin's shop local message. The COVID-19 restrictions raised people's awareness of the importance of local businesses and the vital service provided by local shops. We are asking everyone in Cahir and the surrounding area, when it comes to their Christmas shopping, to think local and to shop local,” he said.

Tipperary County Council is offering initiatives to support local businesses during the holiday season:

• Free parking in Cahir in all Public Car Parks each Saturday in December to encourage people to shop locally.

• Tipperary County Council provided funding at the beginning of the year to the towns of Tipperary, Cahir and Cashel to purchase energy efficient LED Christmas lights and allocated a further €1500 to each of the towns towards the running costs.

• In addition, Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District is supporting a town voucher scheme, which is being run by Cahir Development Association.
