If you are looking for an enjoyable group outdoor activity over the Christmas period, then look no further than the Christmas walks that the Galtee Walking Club has on offer.
Sunday 18th December: Santa Hat Stroll in the beautiful Glen of Aherlow, starting at 10am, with mince pies afterwards, this walk will cover 18km of ground in around 5 hours.
Wednesday 21st December: The annual Winter Solstice walk to Slievereagh in the Ballyhoura Mountains. A group will leave from Glenbrohane at 6pm but it will be possible to start any time before 7.30pm. The Liam McCarthy cup will make a special appearance, and tea will be served in the hall afterwards. There's always a great atmosphere on this uphill walk marking the shortest day of the year. This year's walk - “Up the Hill for Jack and Jill and Cora” is in aid of the Jack and Jill and Croí Cora foundations.
Wednesday 28th December: Starlight walks starting in Galbally in aid of the Circle of Friends Cancer Support Centre in Tipperary. One walk will lead to Darby's Bed, the remains of a passage tomb which probably dates from around 3000 BC while a second will take place in Galbally village park. Contact Denny at 086 0888145.
Sunday 1st January: Get the new year off to a unique start by climbing Galtymore, the highest peak in Tipperary and Limerick. There is something special about walking into the first daylight of a new year. This walk starts at 6am from the Black Road.
Further details about the walks can be found on http://www.galteewalkingclub.ie/schedule.html or contact email@example.com. The club leads walks every Sunday and also on Wednesday evenings from April to August. Anyone is welcome to try out a walk before becoming a member. Or if you would like to give someone “a gift of adventure”, why not take out Galtee Walking Club membership for them as a Christmas gift.
