Galtee Mountain Boy Statue Placed in Burncourt

Some say he is fictional, others say he was based on a real person. 'The Galtee Mountain Boy' is an old song written about a boy, no more than sixteen, who joined the Flying Columns in Tipperary and fought in the War of Independence.

Commissioned by the Rhododendron Walking Festival, the carving was designed by Will Fogarty of Fear na Coilte Chainsaw Sculptures, and was recently placed in the village of Burncourt, which is between the Galtee and Knockmealdown Mountains.

The piece is a wonderful addition to Burncourt and adds to the heritage of the area.
