Cahir GAA Club Notes

Minor ‘A' football county semi-final

New Inn was the venue for this match last Sunday at noon; the South champions were up against a combination side of Golden and Bansha, on a very windy afternoon, it was the combo team that struck a point first with the aid of that wind, five gone on the clock Cahir raised the green flag, followed by a white flag to make 1-01 to 0-01, eight minutes would elapse before the next point would come and it went to the combo side which they followed up with a goal the following minute, they would add another two points before Cahir pulled a point back at the twenty one minute mark, our opponents notched another two points before Cahir kicked the last two points of the half, and at the whistle for the break the score board read 1-04 to 1-06 Cahir two behind, with the wind for the second half Cahir went another point behind, Cahir notched up three points from the sixth to the eleventh minute, on thirteen minutes the Galtee/Golden combo would finish the game with fourteen players after a straight red, from that the two sides were level for the first time and on seventeen minutes Cahir took the lead for the first time but it only lasted until the twentieth minute when the combo went two ahead with six to go, twenty five gone we pulled one back, and on twenty seven our hard working team were awarded a penalty which Sean Murphy calmly slotted home, our young men were now two ahead and with time up Stephen Grogan had time to kick a free over the bar to give the lads a very hard earned win, the lads played well ( although at times a little sloppy) and worked really hard with some outstanding performances from the likes of Jake Kiely and Nickolas Reidy to name just two, but at the end of the day it takes a full panel of players to get the results, so well done to all the players and their management team (who we do not envy ) job well done congratulations from us all in the club and now we can look forward to a county minor A final, full time score Cahir 2-12 Bansha/Golden 1-12, full team and scorers: Killian Halpin, Darragh Heffernan, Eoghan Kelly, Eoin Wyse, Francie Delaney, Christopher McDonagh, Tommy McDonagh, Stephen Grogan (0-2), Dylan Fitzgerald (0-1), Jake Kiely, Kevin Grogan (0-1), Nicholas Reidy (0-1), Jake Fitzgerald (0-1), Sean Murphy (1-3), David Clifford (1-3). Subs Used: Mark Casey, Tommy Magner,

Strictly Cahir 2018

Yes everybody our version of strictly come dancing is back and will be a fund raiser for our club, two years ago we held our first one and it was a huge success, and we hope this year will be no different, this time around we have fifteen couples doing their thing, and as we speak are in training for two big nights, the dates for the two nights are the 30th of November (Friday) and the 1st of December the following Saturday, we would like to thank all our dancers for coming on board to help our club with much needed funding, we have a few weeks before the shows starts, so please keep the above dates in mind, tickets always sell out fast so you have been warned, we will keep you up to date in plenty of time before the two big shows.

Martin Fogarty Skills Workshop

Sincere thanks to all who helped out and welcomed Martin Fogarty to the Club on Tuesday night last for his Skills Workshop.

It was great to see so many players and coaches attend both from our own Club and surrounding clubs, as far up as the North Tipperary, It must also be noted we had plenty of positive feedback on the night and have received many texts since Tuesday thanking Cahir GAA Club, It is always good to get positive feedback especially from outside clubs, thumbs up to all the organisers.

Aussie bound

Best of luck to Aisling McCarthy who as we speak is in Australia, as part of an exciting rookie trial with the AFLW this week, the twenty two year old Cahir player is one of eleven Irish players along with players from England Canada and USA even as far as Fiji, a tough test in front of Aisling but we know she is well up for such a test, you can read the full story on The 42 .ie

U12 County Champions

Congratulations to our young ladies who came home victorious last Saturday after a super match in the Ragg against Cashel. Great all round team performance and a final score line of Cahir 1-4 Cashel 0-2. Pictured below are the team and management, Joanne Reidy, Melanie Flannery, Aoife Quirke, Caoimhe O Callaghan, Grace Carey, Bella Healy, Grace English, Kate Lonergan, Emma Brown, Paddy Caplice Lucy Caplice Erinn Brennan, Mary Delaney, Leah Flannery (and scoring 1-4) Sara Kelly and Siobhan Reidy, nice to see more silverware in the club, well done to all.

Minor Combination Team

Our minor combo team of Cahir/Ballybacon had their first outing today with a game against Drom in Ballybacon, a tough encounter and despite a loss, a very positive performance for this team's first full game together as a unit. They will play Fethard away next Saturday morning at 11am, best of luck to all in that game.

It has been a busy few weeks within the club, firstly we were ably represented by our Senior Ladies in the Kilmacud Crokes 7's competition which is held annually over the All Ireland weekend. They narrowly lost out in their first two games against St. Martins and St. Bridgids but ending their day on a high with a comprehensive win over Dublin's St Judes, after an “early” night they( along with our Chairwoman Mary ) made their way to Croke Park to watch the All Ireland and a great weekend was had by all, full team, Orla McEniry, Aoife Casey, Lorna McEniry, Emma

Buckley, Carol Casey, Roisin Howard, Aoife O Donnell, Dervla Buckley, Eileen Flannery.

Our U14s faced Cashel on Saturday13th in the league. We were carrying a number of injuries going into the game and could only gather 14 to start. Without any subs to bring on it was always going to be a tough encounter as Cashel had a good bench to draw from. While being well down at half time the girls kept their composure and battled away again in the second half. Despite a heavy defeat our girls showed great fight and their never give in attitude is a victory in itself. Great saves from Abby Noonan and tremendous work from Aofie Flynn along with the rest of the full back line Caoimhe Hickey and Holly Keating kept Cashel on their toes. Anika Moloney and Grace Carey never stopped for a minute continually harassing and following their markers. Kate Flannery as always put her Captains hat on and put her heart and soul into the game scoring a beauty of a point while the ever skilful pairing of Sara Finnane and Saoirse Keating were rewarded for all their hard work with a two excellently executed goals from the duo. Up front Leah Flannery and Mary Delaney kept the Cashel back's busy while in the full forward line Emily Kirby, Caoimhe Costello and Niamh Costigan were a constant threat to the goal line with Niamh scoring a lovely point from play, heads up girls and again well done.

Congratulations

Well done to the senior ladies football team who were crowned county champions last Sunday afternoon, great to see our ladies doing so well.
