New Couch to 5km starts this Tuesday

The Cahir Meet and Train gang are gearing up for a new Couch to 5km programme due to start this coming Tuesday. Now that the kids are back in school and the evenings are pulling in, why not consider trying to get a little fitter in a group and fun environment.

This course will run over 7 weeks and while we won't break records you should be able to complete a 5km Run at the end of it.

It will mean every Tuesday and Thursday and we will facilitate a Saturday morning run or else you can work away on your own if your tied to time.

The glory about meet and Train is that everyone starting the programme is in the same boat and there is no charge. Anyone wanting to move on faster can move upto the groups ahead or if the pressure is on you can take a step back to the walking group. There is a level for all so do try it out and you won't regret it.

As an example, week 1: start with 5 minutes walk then 90 seconds jog/ 90 seconds walk x 3 and 3 minutes recovery. This is repeated 3 times before finishing off with 5 minute walk.

So you can see it's mainly walking to ease into it.

Last week the walkers took to a loop in Lismore and joggers took to the mountains for a bit of variation before the long evenings prevent us. Any ladies considering the Ladies Mini Marathon should enter for the cheaper rate. Best of luck to our half marathon gang taking on the Boston Half Marathon this weekend,
