Free Funday in Cahir this Sunday

This Sunday will see the unveiling of Teds Memorial Plaque at 12.45. The event will take place down near the boat slip at the Mall. The group will be supported by Cahir Canoe Club, Cahir Rowing Club and Cahir River Rescue. Also present will be members of the Meet And Train and Cahir Men's Shed who Ted Lenehan supported with any stewarding with his dog Pongo.

A series of events have sprung up around the day to tie in with Heritage Day. Following the unveiling there will be a Cricket Match in the Inch Field. Cahir was home to many Cricket teams in the years gone by and maybe this event will influence a resurrection of the sport in Cahir.

The Hot Air Balloons will also make a return at 1.30pm in the Inch Field and weather permitting will rise into the skies above Cahir Castle and away over the town.

While all this is going on there will be a puppet show in the Inch Field sponsored by Dolan's Super Valu. This will start at 2pm.

Also starting at 2 from the Tourist Office will be a Historical Walk of the Town Centre where tourists and locals can learn about the history of Cahir.

This will be supported by Cahir Comhaltas who will provide street entertainment throughout the afternoon. The Men's Shed will provide entertainment at the Parochial Hall after the unveiling.

DJ Eoin O Donoghue from Tipp Mid West will entertain visitors to the Inch Field.

The Cahir Park FC Pub League is in a blitz format this year and finals are planned for 3.30pm before heading for musical entertainment in the square by The Pearly Whites 10 piece band. Weather permitting or else it will move to Irwin's yard.

During the course of the day there will be free entry to the Swiss Cottage and Cahir Castle and a charity Motorcycle Ride leaving the Castle Car Park at 11am and returning at 3pm.

Why not wait on the bridge for a Canoe / Kayak Race at 4pm which replaces the usual boat race due to the lack of water.

All in all it's an action packed day in Cahir and it's all Free to enjoy.

On the domestic scene, we start works on the reconstruction of the Lady Walpoles Canal this week and works should be complete within 10 days. This area is down behind the fish in the car park and we will hope to develop it further in the coming months.

The group took a trip to Lismore last weekend to meet up with members down there and view the area. We meet as normal on this coming Wednesday at 7pm sharp.
