Cahir GAA Club Notes

Cahir bridge 18 year gap

What a day we all had in Clonmel last Sunday, where our minor footballers made history, it was the South A football final where we were up against a Clonmel Óg/ Ballyporeen side, Cahir got off to worst start possible and within three minutes were 1-01 down, in fact it would take five minutes to register our first score, a couple of points were exchanged and on fourteen minutes a great run by Francie McDonagh set up our captain to score our first goal from close range, Cahir settling down and on twenty minutes were level, then came another blow when on twenty-one minutes the combo outfit raised the green flag and at the half time whistle we were behind by two 1-06 to 2-05.

Before the restart we lost Dylan Fitzgerald to injury with Mark Casey taking his place for the last thirty, the second half was nip and tuck at the start but half way through the half we were down a man to two yellow cards, but this did not deter our young men and they started to power their way through our opponents defence and on twenty four minutes man of the match Stephen Grogan got our second goal after great work in from the right to put us two points ahead going into the closing stages, the lads held on to take the win 2-11 to 2-09, and make history and bridge an eighteen year gap, great credit is due to this fine bunch of players the way they came back and held on to this game was just magic, well done to every single player and sub on that pitch that day, they all showed great character, the win was dedicated to Tomás Kelly, who is in the picture above, we must also thank their management team lead by Davy McEniry and by his side Maura Grogan Donie Casey, and missing on the day (but kept informed) Dermot Fitzgerald, they were the main people behind the team, but we must thank a lot of people who helped out on the day with water etc., you know who you are and again thank you, (below a few pictures of the day) full team and scorers: Killian Halpin, Darragh Heffernan, Christopher McDonagh, Eoin Wyse, Francie Delaney, Eoghan Kelly,Tommy McDonagh (0-1), Dylan Fitzgerald, Stephen Grogan (1-5), Jake Fitzgerald, Kevin Grogan (0-1), Nicholas Reidy David Clifford (0-2), Sean Murphy (1-1), Jake Kiely (0-1). Draw the Joker

This week it was the turn of Cahir House Hotel to host our draw, as always we were looked after very well by our hosts, this week's winners: Kevin Butler, Tommy & Helen Barrett, Martin & Gertie Moloney, Sean O'Connor and Jim Doolan.

What a lovely picture we found on social media of Helen and Tommy Barrett on their wedding day eighteen years ago, and around this time is their anniversary of that great day, all in the club would like to wish both Helen and Tommy years and years of more happiness together.

The club would like to wish John Hickey a speedy recovery from an operation that he will have next Thursday to sort him out, we hope all goes well John and your back with us soon.
