Cahir Blueway Launch Requested

At this months meeting of Tipperary County Council, councillor Andy Moloney asked for an update on the launch of the Blueway from Cahir to Carrick-on-Suir.

Moloney stated that the river had gotten very busy in recent years and competitions in Clonmel recently highlighted how successful this stretch can be.

Tipperary Sports-partnership are actively promoting summer camps on the river and the Cahir Camp is from 18th - 21st June for teenagers from 13-16 years, we still need signage for leisure paddlers who are using the waterways and we need the Blueway launched officially.

The Cahir councillor also drew down about signage on the river edge to warm bathers that there are no lifeguards on duty and this should be in a few languages.

Recent tragedies in Co Clare just highlights the danger of old Quarry sites and while they may be classed as private property, the council has a duty to the public to make them aware that it's unsafe to swim and boat in these areas.

He was also critical about a motion he had passed previous to have awareness signage erected along the river bank and that this had never been carried out.

The director of services was to look into the where the breakdown occurred and get back to him.
