Moloneys concern over Garda numbers in Cahir

Cllr Andy Moloney has put a motion before council asking the Garda Commissioner to guarantee that Cahir Garda Station will not be downgraded or lose any more members following statistics released this week. While Garda numbers have dropped to there lowest in a decade Nationally, the main concern is that Cahir has been named as one of six at District Level that have lost over 6% of it's force in 2014. Cahir along with Castlebar,Leixlip,Ardee, Ballymote, Tramore and Blackrock have taken a hit. Cllr Moloney wants the questions answered and if this is the start of a wind down of district stations, he wants the Council to write to Garda Commissioner Noirin O Sullivan to guarantee that this is not the case and also to confirm that the staff levels with be increased to the national average. Moloneys motion comes before the council at the May monthly meeting and says that this doubt needs to be put to bed ASAP.
