Cahir GAA Club Notes

Junior A hurling

The Junior A hurling championship for 2018 kicked off last Friday evening for our club when we went to Kilsheelan to play Grangemockler/Ballyneale, the first twenty minutes did not go to plan for our team who found themselves seven points to one down at that stage, but this bunch of players were not going to give up and slowly started their come back, in a tough battle Cahir started to play man for man and an Eoin Donaghy goal put the game back in sight of our lads and at the interval we were three points down, 1-06 to 1-09, the team was lead out by captain Kieran O'Dwyer (pictured) for the second half which would be a tight affair between both teams,

the game went the way of our team and a penalty scored by Stephen Grogan would be the difference between the two teams, final score Cahir 2-12 Grangemockler/Ballyneale 1-12, overall a few things to work on for Cahir but getting the win and having the character to come back from a poor start it was a good win for the first championship outing of the year, the management team in hurling for this year is the same as the senior football with slightly reversed roles, selector on the senior football set up and manager of the Junior A hurling for the coming year is Aidan Casey (pictured),

we would like to wish Aidan and all the selectors the best of luck for the year ahead, full team and scorers from the game are as follows: Keelan Hickey, James Walsh, Kieran O'Dwyer, Eoin O'Neill, Patrick Meehan, Ger Hally, Ryan O'Donnell, Stephen Grogan (1-4), Darragh Howard (0-2), Colin McEniry, Daniel Moloney (0-1), Niall McKenna, Alan O'Connor (0-1), Eoin Donaghy (1-1), Conor O'Brien (0-3). Subs Used: Brendan Donaghy. Conor Casey

County Football And Hurling

A busy weekend for our county football and hurling teams, great win for our footballers v Waterford which included our club man Liam Casey (pictured), our footballers now face Cork next Saturday evening in the next round of the championship, hard luck to our minor and senior hurlers who both went to Limerick, a long way to go yet so heads up.

Draw the Joker

It was the turn of the Galtee Inn to host our weekly fund raiser, and as usual we were warmly welcomed to the venue, here are this week's winners: Pam Byrne, Mary O'Donnell (Knockeevan), Louise O'Brien, Sinnita Grimina and Mary Howard.

County Draw

Just days to go in fact hours before the first draw takes place, so please if you would like to join just ask any member of our committee and we will sort you, but remember time is running out

We would like to congratulate two club members on their engagement last weekend; they are Anne-Marie O'Gorman (daughter of Sean and Bridget O' Gorman Priest Rd.) and John McMahon (Smacks as he is known to his team mates), we hope all your plans go well in the future, best wishes guys.

Table Quiz

It's summer time and as all our college young men and women break up, some of them go abroad either for a few weeks or take up employment away from our shores, our club members are no different, so we just want to Bon voyage to a few of our own, to Eddie Kendrick (Canada), Conor Cashman (Australia) and Brian McKenna (London), have a good time guys and we hope to see you all again in a few months, we are sure there will be more so when we get the news you will hear it here first.

To clubman Robert Burke (pictured below) who was voted student of the year in Rockwell College last Friday, he was presented with his prize from Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt, well done Robert.
