Minor Football championship

(Above Killian Halpin taking a kick out for Cahir)

Last Wednesday evening our minor football team were in Ardfinnan to play the latest instalment of the championship, and that came in the shape of Clonmel Commercials, Cahir were first on the score board with two quick points and the contest was even through the first third of the half, on ten minutes captain Sean Murphy scored the first goal of the game, and three minutes later Commercials cancelled out that goal with one of their own, this game was not as free flowing as the last but even enough with our lads getting the last two points of the half to leave the score at the break 1-06 to 1-03 in favour of our team, the second was just three minutes old when a shot from Jake Fitzgerald took a deflection off the Commercial's back and then the keeper to squirm past the line and into the net, (no doubt Jake will say he meant it, and rightly so), five minutes later the Clonmel outfit raised the green flag again to put the game into the melting pot, three scored frees from both teams were to follow in the next twenty minutes, on twenty three minutes Murphy got his second goal of the match, which would be the winning margin at the end, over all a good tight game as you would expect when these two teams meet at A level, final score Cahir 3-09 Commercials 2-09, full team and scorers: Killian Halpin, Darragh Heffernan, Christopher McDonagh, Tommy McDonagh, Francie Delaney, Eoghann Kelly, Eoin Wyse, Mark Casey, Stephen Grogan (0-3), Jake Fitzgerald (1-0), Dylan Fitzgerald (0-1), Nicholas Reidy (0-1), Jake Kiely, Sean Murphy (2-3), Kevin Grogan (0-1). Subs: Tommy Magner, David Clifford
