Historic Week in Cahir
This has been a very historic week in Cahir. On Monday evening the Eileen Anderson Unsung Hero Awards were announced and this was the first time that these awards were open to nominees outside the Clonmel Borough District.
The nominees in the Cahir area were Kitty Burke in Ardfinnan, Dermot O Connor, Cahir and Kitty Peters,Kilmoyler and in Clonmel there was Teddy Lee, Marlfield and Phyllis Whelan, Clonmel.
The winner was Dermot O Connor who came to Tipperary from Kerry as a forester in 1970 and played for some time with Arravale Rovers before moving to Cahir. His involvement in the GAA, Tidy Towns and Meals on Wheels were just a few of his voluntary pastimes that earned him the title.
It was also a historic occasion as it was the first time that since the boundary changes that the public got to see the members in full colour uniform on the podium and march behind the CJ Kickham band through the streets of Cahir.
