Cahir GAA Club Notes

RIP

Sadly again this week we want to offer our condolences to four families with club connections on the recent deaths of Mary Elliott RIP, Cyril Lambert RIP, Gerald O'Gorman RIP. May they rest in peace.

Senior football league

First outing of the new season for our senior footballers took place last Saturday when they played Killsheelan/Killcash in Kilsheelan in the first round of the league, a good work out for the lads and they had control of the game from early on, Cahir were good with the use of the ball with good handling and a calmness about the side at this early stage of the year, (pictured senior player Brian McKenna) and at the break the score read 1-06 to 0-01 in favour of our team, straight from the start of the second half a goal by Connor Cashman put Cahir in the driving seat and were never going to leave this game go, now comfortable the management team blooded a few younger players and the result was promising, all in all a useful work out, it is early in the year yet but all looking good, final score Cahir 2-08 Kilsheelan 0-07, well done to all the panel and mentors, full team and score: Keelan Hickey, Colin McEniry (1-0), Kieran O'Dwyer, Eoin Donaghy, Ger Hally, Sean O'Connor, Conor Casey (0-2), Conor Cashman (1-1), Eddie Kendrick, Brian McKenna, Niall McKenna, Mikey O'Connor (0-3), Conor O'Brien, Dean Lonergan (0-2), Dylan Fitzgerald. Subs Used: Ryan O'Donnell, Darragh Howard, Liam Howard, Eanna Heffernan, James Walsh, Keelan Looby.

Minor football championship

Before the senior game our minor football team were in action in the first round of the championship, in Ned Hall Park where they played Grangemockler/Ballyneale,

In action above Sean Murphy of Cahir, the game itself from a Cahir point of view was a funny one Cahir behind, went level, went ahead and at the end got a draw, probably sums the game up best, final score 1-08 to 1-08, well done to all the panel and management team, full team and scorers: Tiarnan McLoughlin, Darragh Heffernan, Jack Moloney, Francie Delaney, Mark Casey, Eoghann Kelly, Eoin Wyse, Stephen Grogan, Dylan Fitzgerald (0-2), Jake Fitzgerald (1-1), Sean Murphy (0-5), Tommy Magner, Eoghann Heffernan, Kevin Grogan, Killian Halpin. Subs Used: Liam Hickey, Ciaran Power

Our Joker draw this week was held in Cahir House Hotel, with all proceeds going to the Tomas Kelly Trust fund which we told you about last week, and boy did you all respond to it, we had a great week of sales and a fabulous number of tickets in our draw drum, we must thank you all for your kindness you showed for this great cause, and for buying that extra ticket, as we go to print the final sum has not yet be calculated but as soon as we get the final amount we will let you know, we must thank all the ticket sellers who really pulled out all the stops to make it a great draw, this week's winners: S. O'Brien/P. Lonergan, John & Adrienne murphy and Ann Marie Walsh, David Walsh and Gerry O'Looney.

The last county draw for the period 2017/18 took place last Friday evening, alas we had no winner from the club this time round, from a club point of view not the best of years for winners but that as they say is the luck of the draw, we want to thank everyone who signed up for the draw with the club, you support was and is greatly appreciated, we will be rolling out the draw for 2018/19 in the coming weeks and hopefully we can count on your support again, and with a bit of luck we can bring a couple of big prizes to Cahir.

A busy weekend for our inter-county teams with wins for both senior footballers (which included club man Liam Casey), and hurlers also had a good win over Cork, in ladies football our county minors lost to Cork in a game which was scheduled for the Park but the field was not playable, that team had a one Cahir player Rachel O' Donnell, (pictured above).

Hurling

Congratulations to Atlantic Aviation/Molex team that overcame Creagh Concrete 1-16 to 1-8 in the All-Ireland Junior Inter-Firms Hurling Final, Cahir man Tom O'Gorman was a member of the winning panel (pictured below 2nd form the right front row)

It was O'Connor cup weekend for the college ladies football teams, and congratulations to Aishling Moloney captain of the DCU winning team who beat UL in the final which also featured Cahir players, Aisling McCarthy and Roisin Howard. Aishling also got the winning point on the 64th minute, and on the subject of Aishling, there is a lovely video up on our Facebook page for mother's day, have a look great stuff.
