WE CAUGHT UP WITH TIPPERARY LADIES FOOTBALL MANAGER SHANE RONAYNE

The Tipperary Ladies footballers who last season captured League , Munster and All Ireland crowns are back in action this weekend in the Lidl National League Division 2 opener against Armagh. Having achieved promotion after a thrilling replay win last year against Wexford in the Divison 3 decider Shane Ronayne's outfit face a baptism of fire in the higher division as they face seasoned senior campaigners Armagh who despite being relegated from Division 1 last year actually defeated both Cork and Dublin and only narrowly missed out on avoiding the drop. The majority of last year's victorious panel have returned for 2018 and some new faces have been added to the group. Shane was delighted to confirm to us that Ardfinnan's Samantha Lambert and Brian Borus' Jennifer Grant will continue in their roles as captain and vice-captain respectively. He stated that Sam and Jen were excellent leaders last year and inspired the development of many more leader within the group Ronayne will be once again joined on the sidelines by Alan O'Connor, Elaine Harte, Tony Smith and physio Ronan Crosse. He has also added Anne Marie Ruby to his backroom team. Speaking to us earlier in the week Shane said having everyone of the management team back involved was a great boost and insured continuity and he also felt the addition of Anne Marie would be major asset to the everyone.

He is acutely aware of the challenge that his side faces in the league and that it will be a big step up in class from many of the sides they encountered last year in Division 3. The way the fixtures have come out has also added to the task ahead with away trips to Armagh, Tyrone, Cavan and Clare all on the horizon with home games against Laois, Waterford and Sligo. They are however an ambitious group of management and players and they are setting their sights on a top 4 finish. “Getting into the semi-finals of the league is our first target of the year, by reaching that stage you get another high quality game which regardless of the result will help with our preparations for the Munster semi final against Cork” Ronayne added.
