Cahir GAA Notes


We start this week on a sad note as we offer our condolences to the Lonergan family on the recent death of Shane Lonergan (formerly of Avondale Court Cahir) RIP our thoughts are with the Lonergan and extended families at this sad time, may he rest in peace.

Last Friday evening the South board brought out our first round fixtures from minor to senior in football and hurling, with some interesting ties in all competitions, we will start with the senior football draw,

Kilsheelan-Kilcash a bye, Cahir v Killenaule

Ardfinnan v Ballyporeen, Commercials v Moyle Rovers. In Junior B' football our first match will be against Ballyporeen,

In U21'B'football our champions first opponents will be Grangemockler/Ballyneale in group B, and in Minor A football we also meet Grangemockler/Ballyneale.

Junior A' hurling, see's us in a tough group, but our guys will be well able for the competition, here it is Group A

Cahir v Grangemockler/Ballyneale, Killenaule v Skeheenarinka, Ballylooby/Castlegrace v Fethard,

In Junior B' hurling we are in the following group, Moyle Rovers v Marlfield, Cahir v St. Marys, Clerihan v Mullinahone, St. Patricks, get a bye, our U21B defending South champions start their campaign against Clerihan, and our Minor hurlers are “A” this year and they get a bye in the first round of the group, here's the group, Grangemockler/Ballyneale v St. Marys , Moyle Rovers v Carrick Swan, Cahir a bye, Skeheenarinka/Clonmel Og v Ballingarry , another tough group but not impossible, no dates or times or venues are out yet but we will keep you informed, we all can't wait for it all to start, so we say good luck to all our players and their management teams for the year ahead, and to all our members try your best to come along to as many games as possible and support all our teams during the year.

Staying with all things south, club member and South Board member Michael Quinn (pictured) celebrated a mile stone birthday last weekend, with his family and friends and club members, from all in the club Mick we want to wish you a happy birthday and we hope you will see many more

Draw the Joker

The Punter's Rest was our venue last Sunday for our weekly fun game, as always your support of our draw is greatly appreciated; here are this week's winners: Helen Hally, Kevin & Breeda O'Neill, Martin Burke, Frank Mullins and Murty Cashman.


Four young men as the sun shines on them, have a bright future ahead of them as all four were picked for the U14 South football Divisional squad for the coming year, pictured above from left to right are Colin Barrett, Sean Leahy, Francie McDonagh and Oisin Maher, congratulations young men well done.

Another award for McCarthy

Congratulations to Aisling McCarthy (pictured below) winning yet another award, this time a Annerville sports award, the award ceremony was held in the Clonmel Park Hotel at the weekend just gone, well done Aisling well deserved.


One fixture we can bring you is the U21 ‘B' football round one, on Sunday next the 28th Cahir v Grangemockler/Ballyneale in Monroe at 12 noon, please be aware that this fixture is subject to weather and could change, we will inform you of any changes in advance, if you can please come out and support our team thank you.
