Cahir Progress In Munster

The Munster Junior Cup 4th round tie, between Cahir Park AFC and Avondale United, took place this afternoon in Cahir.

With the rain clearing, the stage was set for this mouth watering fixture. Captains Ian Flannery (Cahir) and Jake O' Callaghan (Avondale) exchanged pennants before the starting whistle.

Seconds into the game Avondale's Greg Murphy powered a shot at goal narrowly missing. The visitors continued to press and it wasn't until the 6th minute when the Park settled into the game and had their first real chance where a James McGrath corner met the head of Shane Murphy and drifted just wide.

The deadlock was broken on the 8th minute when the Cork side's Michael Carroll set up Brian Mullins who hit the back of the net.

The home side rallied the troops and excellent defending from Barry McCormack kept the visitors at bay. On the 25th minute the home side got on the score sheet thanks to a screamer from Shane Murphy. The teams remained level at the break.

In the second half Cahir shot stopper Aaron Wall denied the Avondale attack several times. This was followed by several excellent attacks from Ian Flannery and Andy Fitzpatrick.

On the 69th minute the Cahir men showed they were not just making up the numbers as Benny Ryan rattled the back of the net. They could of added another soon after but a super save from Avondale's Dean Murphy kept them in the game.

The home side held on for the victory and will progress to the next round. Well done to Kenny, Colm and all the lads.
