Hillwalking Community Radio Group Event Fundraiser

Hillwalking Community Radio Group will be running a Fundraiser towards the cost of providing Emergency Communications across the Galtee Mountains from Anglesboro to Cahir on Saturday morning the 9th September next at Lisvernane Community Hall in the beautiful Glen of Aherlow.

Communications equipment is expensive and to offset the cost we are running two low level walks, The Dolmen 3hrs and St. Padraigh's Loop 2hrs. Registration is FREE at 10am a contribution would be appreciated. Walks commence at 10:30am. There will be tea, refreshments afterwards.

At 11am a Coffee Morning will take place in the Hall while the walkers are out on Slievenamuck. If anyone would like to support us by donating some cakes, it would be appreciated. A free raffle for all participants. If you can't make it on the day you can still support us online at or on our Facebook page.

The Voluntary Group was founded in 2010 to provide emergency radio communications for and on behalf of local community organisations and clubs. The Team are skilled in Radio Protocol, First Aid, Map Reading and trained on how to deal with an emergency situation. We are licensed on a number of radio channels by COMREG the Communications Regulator.

In the event of an emergency we can communicate with Mountain Rescue and The Coast Guard Helicopter. Recently we initiated two recuses, one at the Winter Walking Festival when a lady unfortunately broke her leg during a planned walk across Cush Mountain. One of our Team radioed in status RED and provided on site assistance to the hill walker. Mountain Rescue assisted and the casualty was airlifted by Rescue 117 Coast Guard to Waterford general Hospital. Again during the Galtee Crossing a walk leader radioed in for assistance from above Kilcoran to the Base at Anglesboro requesting assistance for two trekkers who got into difficulty. Our Base Controller at the Community hall in Anglesboro set the wheels in motion for a full rescue again.

They look forward to seeing old friends again on the 9th September next. They would like to thank everyone for your continued support.
