Tourism Motion Passed

A Motion to council by Cllr Andy Moloney to have Tipperary Tourism explore the possibilities of selling South Tipperary to the Cruise day trips received full support of the council at this months council meeting.

Moloney claimed that the district was losing out on potential visitors by not tapping into the cruise liners. 97 ships will dock in cobh this year and Moloney travelled to the Cork Port to see where the passengers go when they dock.

On the day he visited, the Caribbean Princess docked at 6am and with a capacity of 4032 there is serious potential for day trippers to visit South Tipperary.

While Blarney seemed to be the main choice of destination with over 40 buses on hand to ferry them around there were some heading for Lismore, The Vee and Cashel.

There is a market there that we need to explore. At the time of his election Moloney said he wanted to promote Tourism in the district and now wants more.

He applauded the efforts of the new Tipperary Tourism group to date and welcomed the commitment to explore the suggestions made by Cllr Moloney and also that of the International flights coming into Cork.
