Cahir Half Marathon This Sunday

The Cahir Half Marathon will stride back into Cahir town this Sunday 9th. With nearly 350 runners taking part there is sure to be a great buzz around the town for the day. Runners are arriving to the historic town from countries such as Tasmania, Spain, Poland, UK, Canada and USA and from all over Ireland of course. Among them will be many local people especially from the Cahir Meet & Train group, so the hosts, Mooreabbey Milers AC, want to encourage you all to come out in force on Sunday morning to cheer on the runners and enjoy the spectacle.

The race begins up past the fire station at 10am, it will run straight out to Ballylooby, through the village, run out that road for a few miles before swinging right, past ABP Cahir Meats, turn left and back down Barrack St. to run past the castle and finish the 13.1 miles in the castle car park. The winner will be finishing at around 11am. This year we have a relay event also with teams of two running half the course each. They will try their best to beat the winner of the half marathon in order to receive a bonus prize so competition will be fierce. The runners would really appreciate your support and encouragement.

Suir Valley Adventures are offering family Currach boat trips at a discounted discounted price in conjunction with the event on Sunday. Inch field behind the castle has many new spectacular wood carvings to view and don't forget to watch out for the fairies! Children will be free of charge in Cahir Castle and Swiss Cottage also. Hope to see you all out and about in Cahir this Sunday morning.
