Last Saturday night the 04th of June the Mayhem for Meningitis group gathered in Morrisseys to hand over the Cheque to the Meningitis Research Foundation. The night was filled with happiness and pride as we handed over €11,100. We had not set a target but we never dreamed we would reach such a sum. We decided to participate in Mayhem in memory of our much beloved Grainne who passed away suddenly in February after contracting meningitis. As a group we felt that by participating in the challenging Mayhem course it would give us all something to focus on whilst also raising well needed funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation. The Mayhem course caused us all to smile and laugh the whole way through even whilst we were head first into muck and dirty water there was no better way to share the happiness and light that Grainne brought to each of our lives whilst also raising much needed funds for The Meningitis Research Foundation.Monika from the Meningitis Research Foundation explained on the night how they are working hard as an organisation to combat meningitis and septicaemia in Ireland by focusing the funding into prevention, detection and treatment, raising awareness of the diseases and supporting people who have already been effected. She explained further how they are not funded by the Government and depend on donations such as ours and are extremely grateful for the huge amount we raised that will go towards the fight against Meningitis. We can't even begin to thank everyone who supported us but can only say how extremely grateful we are for the support we received from the very start! We would like to thank The O Donnell family who have been a huge part of everything and this made the whole event even more special. One special Thank you we would like to make from the bottom of our hearts goes to the Meagher family as we would like to thank them all for their support and also pay our deepest condolences to their loss of Pat Meagher. Pat was such an amazing support to us as a group from the minute he agreed to let us participate in Mayhem he did everything he could to make sure it was a huge success. He allowed us to go out as one group together and also to make custom t-shirts which we will be forever grateful for to look back on what an amazing day we had. We will always remember him for his kind heart and generosity that he showed to us as group and will keep the memories we have from Mayhem because of Pat.Our Final thank you is to Brian & Mags in Morrissey's for kindly hosting the presentation and to Walsh Printing for the posters. We are extremely proud of how as a group and as a community we came together to raise well needed funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in honour of a person who holds a very special place in all of our hearts.
