Dublin house fire: Man hailed a hero after catching baby dropped from third floor balcony

A MAN has been hailed a hero after he ran to catch a child dropped by his father from the third story of a burning building. Six people were taken to hospital following the house fire in Dublin city centre early this morning.

The emergency call was made shortly after 5am this morning, alerting Dublin Fire service to the incident in Gloucester Place, off Sean McDermott Street in the north inner city.

It is understood that the fire broke out on the third floor - the top floor - of the house, and neighbours heard screaming.

One neighbour - Mark Furlong - ran to the scene thinking someone's phone had been stolen, and it is understood that a man who had been holding a baby over a balcony as the fire billowed behind then dropped the bundle.

Mr Furlong managed to catch the baby - thought to be only two or three months old - safely
