Cahir Park Crowned Champions

Peake Villa 0

Cahir Park AFC 0

Cahir Park U16's came into this game five points clear at the top of the TSSDL Premier League.

From the start two physically big teams battled it out. The Park were quickest into their stride pushing the Thurles outfit backwards from the off on what was a particularly difficult playing surface.

Early Park chances were squandered and this became the theme of the game.

On 26 minutes David Brannigan sent his free kick around the wall only to see the Vila keeper somehow stretch full length

and turn it around the post. From a series of corners, a number of half chances from Thomas McDonagh, Rhys O'Regan, Jake Fitzgerald and Thomas Burke went a begging by enlarge down to resolute Peake Villa defending

The second half saw The Park begin very brightly and Jake Fitzgerald lobbed the keeper and as a number of players raced to force the ball across the line the keeper was adjudged to have been fowled and the goal disallowed.

At this point Villa were reduced to break away chances, against a very assured and well marshalled Cahir Park defence. Once again a powerful Brannigan free kick was somehow stopped by the Villa keeper.

Both Rhys Byron and Zac Keating were unlucky with only the keeper to beat. For the remainder of the game, press though they may, Cahir were very unlucky not to find the breakthrough and unusually for them failed to find the net.

The game finished all square and with Clonmel Town in with a mathematical chance of catching The Park, failing to win, the draw saw Cahir Park crowned Premier League Champions for the second successive year at Under 16 level. This hard working and dedicated squad still have an East Waterford West Cork and Tipperary Combined Cup Quarter Final and Tipperary Cup Semi Final to come.

U16 girls played St Kevins in a thriller in Cahir on Sunday afternoon. Cahir were one down in the first few minutes of the game. We went a second down and then were unlucky to hit the crossbar a number of times. When we did get going we replied well. Shannon Morrissey was on fire, as was Robin Carey and Ellie O Sullivan hit the back of the net with a well deserved goal after being unlucky throughout the game. Final score Cahir 9 St Kevins 4. Great game girls, well done.

U12 girls played St Kevins Sunday morning in miserable conditions in Newhill. The rain never let up during the game. A tough game played out and we were unlucky to be beaten 2-0. Great effort by all the girls in the conditions.

We were delighted to host the FAI Primary School 7 a side competition all week in the astro pitch. This is a county Tipperary competition with 190 schools visiting our club over 2 weeks and great credit has to be given to the FAI for running this great competition.

Big Thanks to Anne Downey of Anne Downey Fitness for the sponsorship of jerseys for Cahir Park Youth Team. It's very much appreciated from everyone at the club.

Our annual sponsored walk fundraiser takes place in April and cards will be handed out to all our players this week. We very much appreciate all donations to this club fundraiser and you can see how busy the club is and with the facilities in our grounds it's fair to say you can see where your money goes.
