Cahir Park AFC Notes

FAI Umbro U17 Cup

Cahir Park 9

Conn Rangers (Mayo) 1

Cahir Park U17's enjoyed a comprehensive win over Conn Rangers in the last 32 of the FAI Cup.

The Park go off to a flying start when on 6 minutes, a slip in the Rangers defence allowed Rhys Byron to race in on goal and pick our Dylan Fitzgerald who coolly slotted home.

Both teams battled well but it was Cahir Park posing most of the problems in the final third of the pitch. This pressure was rewarded when Rhys Byron finished a great move on 19 minutes to make it 2 nil to the home side. Sean Murphy pounced on a lose kick out from the Rangers keeper sweeping it wide to Rhys O'Regan, Murphy continuing his run collected the return pass to fire into the Conn net on 32 minutes. The final minute of the first half was an eventful one, firstly Rhys Byron made it 4 nil before s mix up in the Cahir defence saw Murphy somehow turn the ball past his despairing keeper to see the sides go in at half time 4 - 1.

Conn Rangers started the 2nd half the better side and it took some resilient defending to keep them at bay. Then on 52 minutes the tie was over as a contest when Rhys O' Regan got on the score sheet with an emphatic finish then Rhys Byron got his Hat Trick only 6 minutes later. On 76 minutes Dylan Fitzgerald got his 2nd and only 2 minutes later scored again finishing off a swift move down the right flank and in doing so getting his Hat Trick and Cahir's 8th goal.

The scoring was completed on 89 minutes when Shane Crosse finished calmly when the ball rebounded off of the crossbar, leaving the final score 9 - 1.

This was a particularly good Cahir Park performance which demonstrated the strength in depth of the squad when the maximum permitted number of 5 subs were used and they to a man fitted in seamlessly. The score line was particularly hard on the visitors who themselves enjoyed some great periods of possession and are to be commended for never throwing in the towel.

Well done to all involved and a particular thanks to all parents that prepared food for our visitors and a special mention to Annette, Frances, Irene, Siobhan and Thomas for all their help. Fingers crossed for a home draw for Cahir Park in the next round !
