Irish army bomb disposal team called out 100 times in 2014

The Irish army has defused a bomb that was found in the garden of a house in County Dublin.

The operation was the 100th time bomb disposal officers have been called out to examine suspect devices so far this year.

They have dealt with a total of 36 viable devices to date in 2014.

The viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found by the homeowner in an overgrown area of the garden in Ronanstown on Thursday.

The army arrived at the scene at 20:30 local time on Thursday.

A number of nearby houses were evacuated and roads were closed during the operation, that took an hour to complete.
