Cahir GAA Notes

South Senior Football Final

On Sunday last we played Clonmel Commercials in the South Senior Football Final in Kilsheelan. From the off Cahir were on the back foot after conceding a penalty in the first minute, from there on we could not get into this game, from time to time we had our chances but could not take them, final score Cahir 0-06 Commercials 1-15. Look guys we can get back to training in the new year with the purpose of being in a South Final again next year, if we put in a big effort in training this is very possible, so bring on 2017. The team and scorers were as follows: Brian Enright, Keelan Looby, Robbie Costigan, Eoin Donaghy, Mikey O'Connor, Eddie Kendrick, Brian McKenna, Conor Cashman, Liam Casey, James McGrath, Shane Murphy, Niall McKenna, Johnny McMahon (0-4), Aidan Casey, Dean Lonergan (0-2),

Subs Used: Dylan Fitzgerald, Oisin Moolney, Conor Casey, Darragh Howard, Ian Flannery, Aaron Murphy,

We would like to thank all the players for the great effort you gave the club this year and a thank you to Robbie Costigan who travelled from Saudi for the match, to the management team John O Connor, Denny Whelan for all the hard work and to our coach Michael O'Loughlin for his time and knowledge he brought with him to the club, Michael we thank you again and wish you well in your new venture (which we will mention later), thanks to Karen Coughlan for all the physio, and everybody else who we did not mention.

Heartbreak for Minors

We had a very busy week with Minor hurling taking centre stage all week, Ballyporeen under lights was the venue of the week, and on Tuesday last our young men played a fancied Kilsheelan/Kilcash team in the South hurling semi- final. The first 30 started well for both teams, a goal and some great points scored kept Cahir in the game despite the Kilsheelan/Kilcash team raising the green flag three times, the break came with just a point between the sides at half time, Cahir 1-07 kilsheelan 3-02, so game on for the next thirty minutes, Cahir took control of the half scoring 2-04 to just 0-06 from our opponents, a great win for the lads , a South Final awaits. The team and scorers were as follows: Eric Coleman, Conor McKenna, Patrick Meehan, Eoin O'Neill, Sean Murphy, Stephen Grogan (0-4), Ger Quinn, Cavan McKenna, Dylan Fitzgerald, Paulie Barrett (2-1), Conor O'Brien (1-3), Colin McEniry (0-2), Conor Cashman, Alan O'Connor, Jack Murphy (0-1). Subs Used: Tommy McDonagh, Nicholas Reidy, Eoghann Kelly

On Thursday back to the same venue to play Skeheen/Clonmel Og in the Minor B South Final, the men from our parish started well enough, but looked a little flat, despite that went to the break again just one behind, half time Cahir1-03 to 0-07, the next thirty minutes seem to get away from our team and they could not bridge the gap that the combo Team opened up, final score Cahir 1-06 to -0-16. The team and scorers were as follows: Eric Coleman, Conor McKenna, Patrick Meehan (0-1), Eoin O'Neill, Sean Murphy, Stephen Grogan (0-2), Ger Quinn, Cavan McKenna, Colin McEniry, Alan O'Connor, Conor O'Brien (0-2), Dylan Fitzgerald, Paulie Barrett (1-0), Conor Cashman, Jack Murphy (0-1). Subs Used: Tommy McDonagh, Nicholas Reidy,

A big thank is due you to all the panel of players.

Thanks to the management team led by Pat O Brien, Davy McEniry, Diarmuid Tarrant, Paddy O Gorman, Brian Murphy, for the big effort and long hours they put in and to everybody that we forgot to mention. To sum up, it was great to see a minor team all parish based and that we had a good season on our own, when you think we played teams with two, sometimes three clubs combined we think this leaves the club in good stead for the future.
