Cahir GAA Notes

Junior hurling

The junior hurling championship quarter final between our lads in the green and white and Ballybacon/grange was played last Sunday in Clonmel. This was always going to be a tight affair with both teams knowing each other well and a place in the semi-final the prize for the winner and that's the way the game started and continued in the first half with both teams trading points to leave just two points between them at the break, Ballybacon with the advantage, Cahir 0-07 Bally' 0-09. The second 30 started the same as the first both teams trading points. Cahir had a couple of goal chances but could not convert and with about 10 minutes left our opponents started to pull away slightly and form here on to the final whistle they slotted over four unanswered points, final score Cahir 0-11 Ballybacon/grange 0-18, The team and scorers were as follows: Brian Enright, Keelan Looby, Kieran O'Dwyer, Dylan Walsh, Ryan O'Donnell, Eoin Donaghy (0-1), Brendan Donaghy, Conor Cashman, Conor Casey, Daire O'Brien (0-1), Aidan Casey (0-1), Johnny B. O'Brien (0-1), Keelan Hickey, Johnny McMahon (0-6), Dylan Fitzgerald (0-1). Subs: Mikey O'Connor and Shane Murphy

Cahir Camogie Notes

Cahir Under 14's captured the C County Championship in fine style at The Ragg on Saturday last, beating a physically stronger Burgess team but what Cahir lacked in strength they made up for in skill and determination. Cahir led at half-time by 1.3 to 0.1 and the score would have been closer but for a brilliant save from goalkeeper Abby Noonan. She was well supported all through by backs Fiona McEniry, Meadbh Casey and Niamh Roche. At mid-field Sara Finnane, Aine Grace and Rosanna Kiely stopped their opponents in their tracks with Sara and Rosanna also contributing with scores. But it was in attack that Burgess could not compete with the likes of Kate Flannery and Niamh Costigan in particular turning possession into scores. Overall this was a great team performance and well done to all the girls and their management team. The panel from yesterdays U14 County C Final were: Abby Noonan, Molly Magner, Fiona McEniry (Capt), Meadbh Casey, Emma Casey, Niamh Roche, Sara Finnane, Rosanna Kiely, Áine Grace, Kate Flannery, Niamh Costigan, Lauren Moloney, Shauna Barrett, Caoimhe Costello, Anika Moloney, Aoife Flynn, Emily Kirby, Ciara Quirke, Emer McCarthy, Ciara Brennan.

Scorers for Cahir; Fiona McEniry 0-2 Kate Flannery 2-3 Sara Finnane 0-1 Rosanna Kiely 0-2

Managers: Dan Casey, Seamus Moloney, Mentors: Colette Kiely, Sally Casey, Jason Flannery.

Final score: Cahir 2.8 Burgess 1.1.
