Surviving Sepsis Campaign deserves wide recognition,” McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has added his support to the South Tipperary General Hospital Surviving Sepsis Campaign. Deputy McGrath was speaking after meeting with the organising group who are holding a day long multidisciplinary session for healthcare professionals in STGH today "The work performed by STGH Surviving Sepsis Campaign is of enormous benefit to all those adversely affected by this condition.

Sepsis affects people right across the health and age spectrum from paediatrics to maternity to critical and coronary care.

The STGH Campaign team aim to highlight approaches to sepsis management care based on early recognition of sepsis and timely referral to critical care.

Given that such an approach leads to reported reductions in mortality from severe sepsis/septic shock in the order of 20-30%, it is vital that the entire community in Tipperary is aware of the work being done by the hospital and its staff and the services they offer.

We can only applaud the magnificent work that they have undertaken for the last five years which has almost certainly led to lives being saved across the county.

It is my firm hope that any resources they need to combat this condition and to raise awareness about the importance of preventative measures will be approved or guaranteed by the Minister for Health,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
