Pictured are Burncourt National School 5th and 6th class students who were chosen to exhibit in the BT Young Scientist exhibition held this Saturday 16th January in Mary Immaculate College from 9.30am - 3.30pm.The question that the boys chose to investigate was 'How to stop tears forming when cutting onions?'.They examined five different ways of cutting onions - wearing goggles, under water, beside a candle, with a spoon upside down in their mouth, and with a bowl of water beside them. They took pictures of their eyes before and after carrying out the experiment. The most successful ways were using goggles and cutting the onion under water. They also found red onions less irritating on the eyes. The whole class had great fun helping the boys with the experiment!
