Approximately 500 people recently attended the perfect setting of St Mary's Church in Cahir on cold and blustery evening, to share in a night of wonderful song and inspiration organised by Cahir Development Association, John Quirke, Hillary Carter and Fr. Gerry Lafford. The evening was hosted by the Award Winning Vocalist Trudi Lalor along with her special guests for the evening, Marc Roberts, Paddy O'Brien and PJ MurihyThe audience, many of whom had travelled from faraway parts of the county were treated right from ‘curtain up' to a magical musical evening with songs from Trudi's new Gospel CD ‘Believe' including an amazing rendition of “How Great Thou Art” that raised the roof. Marc Roberts roused the crowd with songs from his very successful John Denver Tribute Show and Paddy O'Brien and PJ Murlihy serenaded the audience with their traditional music and country song favourites. This atmospheric and emotional evening ended with a medley of traditional Christmas songs and carols that warmed the heart and was such a special and magical start to the Christmas festivities in St Marys Church… The church was filled with song as everyone joined in.The organising committee including Cahir Development Association, John Quirke, Fr. Gerry Lafford and Hillary Carter would like to express their sincere thanks to all who helped this to be such a successful event. For all the volunteers on the evening who gave of their time so generously, including the 6 young ladies from Coláiste Dun Iascaigh transition year, local volunteers, Cahir Daycare centre and Cahir County Market for the provision of food for the musicians, to Cahir GAA for their help with directions and parking facilities on such a cold and blustery night. A special thank you to all the local businesses who supported the event with donations or raffle prizes and gave so generously at such a demanding time of year. The committee are proud to announce that the proceeds raised €2,000 for St. Mary's Church and €2,000 for Cahir Community Hall. We would sincerely like to pay special thanks to Fr Gerry for allowing the concert to be held in St Marys as the setting and the acoustics were remarkable and unforgettable. Well done to everyone!!
