Cahir GAA Notes

Seniors bow out

Last Sunday our senior football team were in Golden to play Galtee Rovers in the County Championship, although not our full squad, Cahir started brightly and after 20 minutes were ahead by 2-03 to 0-03. With a minute or so to go to the break the dismissal of Aidan Casey (straight red) was a big blow to the Cahir team. The second half, we knew was going to be tough and with 14 men that's the way it panned out with Rovers lifting their game and taking their points, with various stops and starts the game was in the melting pot until the final whistle Cahir coming up short, final score Cahir 2-06 Rovers 1-11.

A big thank you to all the players for their commitment over the last few months and to the management team for their hard work and time they gave the club since the start of this year's campaign, Sundays team and scorers, Brian Enright, Ryan Murphy, Ger Hally, Mikey O'Connor, Sean O'Connor, Aidan Casey, Eoin Donaghy, Diarmuid Tarrant, Conor Cashman, James McGrath, Niall McKenna, Ian Flannery. Padraig Whelan (0-4), Dean Lonergan (1-2), Shane Murphy (1-0), Subs used: Brendan Donaghy, Brian McKenna.

Minor hurling

Again last Sunday our minors were out at midday were they played Ballingarry in the Championship (crazy when you think our senior team were playing at 3pm later that day!). Both teams started brightly exchanging score for score with Ballingarry adding a few more before the half time whistle which came with the scores Cahir/Fr. Sheehy's 1-07 Ballingarry 1-14, the combo team in the second half showed great character but could not bridge the half time gap going on to lose the game on the score Cahir/Fr.Sheehy's 2-11 to 1-23, again a big thank you to all the players our friends from Fr.Sheehy's and the management team for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. The team and scorers were as follows: Eric Coleman, Eanna Heffernan, Keelan Looby, Paulie Barrett, Dylan Walsh, Conor Cashman, James Conway, Brian McKenna, Ben Hyland (1-2), Alan O'Connor (0-5), Patrick Meehan, Darragh Howard (0-1), Jack Murphy (1-0), Colin English (0-3), Aaron Condon. Subs used: Conor O'Brien, Colin McEniry, Eoin O'Neill, Nicholas Reidy.

Sadly more heartbreak

Our U16 B hurlers played their county semi-final v Lorrha/Shannon Rovers last Saturday in Templemore. The young men held their own in the first half, Cahir 1-02 Lorrha 1-08. The second half, the lads found it hard against a very strong combo team from north of the county, final score Cahir 1-3 Lorrha/Shannon Rovers 2-14. Heads up lads remember you are the SOUTH B HURLING CHAMPIONS FOR 2015, not too many of them medals in Cahir lads, on behalf of the club and juvenile club a big thank you to all the players for a great journey and to the management for all the hard work each and every one (players and mentors) should be very proud of your efforts this year, congratulations all.

Speedy recovery

All in Cahir GAA would like to wish Stephen Grogan a swift recovery and hope to see him soon back on the pitch.

At last good news

Congratulations to our ladies intermediate camogie team on reaching the county final for the first time at this level, they beat Newport/Ballinahinch in the semi-final last Sunday 3-18 to 2-08, well done to all players and mentors, more on the final to follow.
