Cahir Increase by 5 Marks

The Cahir Tidy Towns Group celebrate this evening with an improvement of 5 marks in the National Adjudication Results. This brings Cahir up to 297 points in total. While it's a very commendable score in Category D on a National scale when compared to towns of our size it's just short of a National prize. We increased marks in Landscaping (+1), Wildlife(+1),Sustainable Waste(+2) and Approach Roads (+1).

We made no gains in Tidiness, Residential or Built Environment and areas of Commercial Advertising, Residential Estate signage and full litter bins full on the day of judging didn't help matters . The toilets also took a hit on the marks but it was only a matter of time.

The Chairman of Cahir Tidy Towns Andy Moloney, was upbeat about the increase and says that we still have lots to work on. He thanked the hard working committee for their Trojan work during the year in Tidy Towns duties and also in their involvement in Meet & train and Walking groups. They have also excelled in their duties as stewards in many events during the year that makes them a special bunch. These results could not be achieved without the help of the community as a whole from donations to table quizzes and church gate collections. He says that every year more and more get involved doing their own area and never get recognition but it is very welcome.

Chairman and local Councillor, Andy Moloney has welcomed a commitment from the Director of Services to Build new Toilets in time for next year's judging and also points out that the opening last week of Cahir Abbey and the new wood carvings in the Inch Field will add to the town in 2016. We also hopes to have the St Declan's Grove sold in the next month and that this area will be a big attraction as the launch of St Declan's way will also be in 2016. This will be a mature Grove and over half the grove is sold already. The 10,000 bulbs will have to go in soon and Moloney is optimistic about next year even at this stage.

Cahir can hold its head up high in Tidy Towns and a hard earned 5 points will be celebrated while plans begin immediately for next year.
