Wm O Connell to be acknowledged

Wm O Connell to be acknowledged at Tipperary Races

This day 50 years ago Wm O Connell from Bansha rode his first winner at Limerick junction Racecourse. He was riding the second string horse called Breakers Hill for the Mrs A Masters stable yard in Poulmucka for Trainer Jimmy Cullen. The favourite in the race was his stablemate Blue Moon ridden by Johnny Brabston from Rosgreen. Owner Mrs Masters and Mrs Perry were the kennels for the Tipperary Foxhounds based in Woodroofe near Derrygrath at the time. A celebration of willies victory will be acknowledged at Tipperary Races this evening. He is wished well by all his friends in Poulmucka.
