Tourist and Toilet upgrade for Cahir
Cllr Andy Moloney has welcomed conformation from the Director of Services that there will be much needed Public Toilet upgrading in Cahir before the 2016 tourist season begins. The Councillor who had previously lobbied as Chairman of Cahir Tidy towns said that the loos are the first port of call for many visitors to the town and as you know first impressions Last. Tidy towns had offered to supply replacement tiles towards renovations but were informed recently that it would be to no avail as extensive works will be carried out. In a separate motion to the council Moloney has looked for longer opening hours for the Tourist Office as the office did not open until late April this year at a time when Tourists are floating around looking for information. This he said includes the Clonmel area office as one will complement the other mainly due to the nature of facilities available in each town. The Tipperary Tourism Board want to increase visitor numbers to the county by 22% over the next 4 years and Moloney claims that in order to achieve this we need to have our facilities open. This he says includes the Swiss Cottage which does not open until Late March. We need all areas open for business on March 1st at latest and remain open until 1st November. The Clonmel /Cahir Municipal District has more than enough attractions to hold tours for a day & overnight or more and the tourism board needs to work with local groups to achieve this target.
