Cahir Social and Historical Society Unveil Memorial Plaque

On Sunday, Cahir Social and Historical Society held a ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque to remember the 60th anniversary of the tragic loss of Mary Sunderland and Paddy Kelly in the River Suir on St. Brigid's Day, 1960.

They were privileged to have the Sunderland and Kelly family as their guests.

A special thanks to Margaret Galvin for reciting her poem,"St. Brigid's Day, 1960:

River Tragedy in Cahir" and for sharing her reflection on that tragedy with everyone present.

The group are also indebted to Cahir Brass Band for their moving performances of "Abide With Me" and "Nearer My God To Thee".

The emotion generated in the the final part of the ceremony which saw the joint unveiling of the memorial plaque by

Michael Kelly and Simon Sunderland will live long in the hearts and minds of those in attendance.
