Cahir GAA Notes

Junior A hurling

Our hurlers were in league action last Saturday away to Newcastle, Cahir's Liam Howard was the first to point from a free, Newcastle were the quicker to settle and on the tenth minute had a goal and two points to our two points, another goal for the black and amber men on twelve saw daylight between the two sides, Cahir kept the score board ticking over with points from various players and areas of the pitch, Newcastle got a third goal in stoppage time of the first half, to make things more difficult for the team a Cahir player got a straight red card to leave Cahir a player down for the second half and trail by seven, half time score Cahir 0-07 Newcastle 3-05, the second thirty was just two minutes old when Stephen Reilly got a goal back and with that a renewed Cahir were now in the driving seat and were playing well despite being a man short, Reilly done very well in the second half and his free taking was great to watch as he pointed accurately, a goal from Alan O'Connor on twenty three minutes helped Cahir to level game, but sadly our opponents done enough with a couple of points to hold on for the win, the gap at half time just a tad too far to reel back, all credit to the team for their second half performance, and the can take from that going forward, full time score: Cahir 2-12 Newcastle 3-11, full team and scorers: Nicholas Reidy, James Walsh, Eoin Donaghy, Colin McEniry, Kieran O'Dwyer, Ger Hally, Mikey O'Connor (0-1), Conor Casey, Darragh Howard, Conor O'Brien (0-1), Sean O'Connor, Liam Howard (0-2), Alan O'Connor (1-1), Stephen Reilly (1-6), Aaron Condon. Subs Used: Ryan O'Donnell (0-1), Eanna Heffernan, Eddie Meehan, Ger Quinn

Our weekly fund raiser game Draw the Joker travelled to the Abbey Tavern last Sunday evening, as always John and Bridie pulled out all the stops to look after us very well as is the way every time we call; this week's winners are as follows: Seamus Quirke, Aoife, Eoin & Aaron Fahy, Ben Slattery, Dermot O'Connor and Máirin McGrath Next week we will be in The Shamrock Lounge with a Jackpot of €6,400

Last Friday evening our club were given a talk on diet and nutrition by Ellen Roche BSc and former dietician to the Waterford hurling team, the event was the brain child of Pat Cashman who put a lot of time and effort in to the evening which came off the back of a successful programme which involved four players from the senior club, the four players had their own reason for getting involved, some to lose weight and others to bulk up a little under a safe and managed programme through diet and the way we all should look at what we eat and drink, everybody enjoyed the evening and left with some very practical knowledge and the know how to look after the body a bit better, thanks to Pat and our four players for their work and effort for this very important subject, well done to all.
