Minors make it two from two

Last Saturday evening our minors played their second game of the football championship in Ardfinnan against Clonmel Commercials, in spring like conditions Commercials got the first two points and it would take Cahir until the sixth minute to register their first score a pointed free from Kevin Grogan and the same man would strike again on the ninth minute with a goal which had a bit of good fortune to it, but none the less Kevin claimed it, both teams traded points up until the ten gone mark, but from ten minutes to twenty only one point would be created in our favour, the last ten of the half saw David Clifford point a couple of frees and Commercials also getting in on the act, at the break the score board read Cahir 1-05 Clonmel 0-05, the second half was three minutes old when Grogan pointed a free and on seven gone a good piece of work by Cahir and a great ball into the square by Jake Kiely would see another Jake this time Fitzgerald fist the resulting ball into the net, no sooner was the kick out taken Commercials would raise the green flag to put the game in the melting pot, on twelve minutes things really warmed up as our opponents got their second goal, the next few minutes saw Clifford and Grogan convert a couple of frees and on eighteen minutes man of the match Kevin Grogan (pictured below) made a strong run into the area and a powerful shot was stopped by the keeper and Kevin was able to fire home the rebound, the last few minutes were hectic but the Cahir lads held out for a great win, final score Cahir 3-10 Commercials 2-10 , well to all the panel of players and their management team, full team and scorers: Killian Halpin, Darragh Heffernan, Eoin Wyse, Liam O'Neill, Liam Hickey, Christopher McDonagh (0-1), Tommy McDonagh (0-1), Kevin Grogan (2-5), Francie Delaney, Jack Buckley, Jake Kiely, Gareth Butler, Jake Fitzgerald (1-0), Conor Kirwan, David Clifford (0-3). Subs Used: Thomas Molan, Callum McGrath

Kevin Grogan reaches highest for the ball last Saturday.

Staying on minor football maters, congratulations to four of our club players who made the county minor football panel, (from L to R) Christopher McDonagh, Eoin Wyse, Francie Delaney and Jack Buckley, well done lads, and best of luck with the county campaign.

Junior A hurling championship

On Sunday last at noon our hurlers went to Ned Hall Park to play their first game of the championship, their opposition were Carrick Davins who came down from intermediate to junior this year, sadly we had a bad day at the office in this game, what can we say just maybe back to the drawing board and start again, let's hope this was a once off and we might be able to look back at the end of the year and say that was the kick needed to start our year, final score, Cahir 1-06 Davins 6-22 full team and scorers: Keelan Hickey, James Walsh, Eoin Donaghy, Eanna Heffernan, Kieran O'Dwyer, Ger Hally, Mikey O'Connor (0-1), Darragh Howard, Conor Casey, Liam Howard, Niall McKenna, Johnny B. O'Brien, Sean O'Connor, Stephen Reilly (0-5), Aaron Condon (1-0). Subs Used: Tommy McDonagh, Alan O'Connor, Brendan Donaghy, Colin McEniry, Eddie Kendrick.
