Cahir Park AFC Notes

Tipperary Youth Cup Semi Final.

Tower Field Thurles.

Peake Villa 0

Cahir Park AFC 4

The Youths, once again drawn away, travelled to Thurles to play League Runners Up Peake Villa in this Tipperary Cup Semi Final. The game started at an incredible intensity, the home side enjoyed a little more of the possession but never threatened the Cahir goal. After 15 minutes The Park started to get on top and push The Villa midfield towards their own goal and were unlucky on 2 separate occasions when they got in behind the opposition defence. On 19 minutes a quick throw in from Jake Kiely found Kieran Crotty who beat 3 players and slipped a pass to David Clifford who raced in at the angle of the penalty area and unleashed a great shot to the bottom corner of the net. Cahir piled on the pressure and a succession of corners led to 3 goal line clearances and the Villa goal was leading a charmed life. The sides went in at the interval with a single goal separating them.

Peake Villa threw everything they had at the Park defence at the restart. Kevin Patton had a great chance to equalise but somehow Adam Gallagher between the Cahir posts pulled off an excellent save.

The Park regained control and put the Villa defence under all sorts of pressure. In one such attack on 59 minutes Jack Ryan-Casey, under real pressure, mis-hit a back pass and the alert Cathan Berrigan raced on to it and coolly slipped the ball past the Keeper. Cahir pressed on and created a series of good chances. An in-swinging corner from Rhys O'Regan saw David Brannigan rise to head to the net and make the score-line 3 - 0 on 73 minutes. Cahir dominated in the closing stages and Cathal Berrigan, capped off a man of the match display, played a “one - two” Ayo with Williams and hit a shot the keeper found too hot to handle and the ball hit the back of the net to see the score-line reach 4 - 0 and round off a solid display from The Park who dug in when they had to and played when they could.

So a really inform Cahir Park reach the Tipperary Cup Final where they will meet Clerihan FC on a date and at a venue yet to be decided.

Next week it is back to the League when we play away in the final fixture to Clonmel Town.

We welcomed our neighbours Vee Rovers to the park for our last home game of the season.

The visitors started the better and took the lead on ten minutes when Brian Sweeney headed home a free kick delivered by Shane Mcgrath... We fought hard to get back into the game and had long periods of controlled possession without creating much of note , then on 30 minutes we got back into the game when Ross Condon finished well in a one on one v the keeper.

HT 1-1

We really controlled long periods of the second half and after 62 mins we took the lead when Alan O Donnell scored from the pen spot, The visitors fought hard to get back into the game but some good defending kept them at bay

We made the game safe on 86 mins when Shane Murphy finished a good move from close range

On 90mins Shane Murphy finished the scoring with a good finish from the edge of the box
